CALL FOR PAPER: The 10th EARCAG will be held in Taipei on Dec. 9-11, 2022.
INTRODUCTION:
The EARCAG (East Asian Regional Conference in Alternative Geography) aims to establish an international network among alternative geographers in East Asia and to explore further perspectives to investigate local geographical issues in East Asia. Instead of merely translating spatial theories developed in the Western context into local languages, East Asian alternative geographers are needed to reconsider in their own context in order to enrich alternative geography. The EARCAG supports their challenges and encourages their activities.
The solidarity among critical and alternative geographers at the global scale has fruited the ICGG and other groups and movements to struggle with various geographical problems on the surface of the globe. The EARCAG wishes to be incorporated in part of the global circles and to contribute towards the development of alternative geography.
The original idea of the EARCAGG was coming out of among some East Asian participants of the IICCG in Vancouver 1997 and proposed by Professor choi and Professor Mizuoka to take shape. The proposal was broadly supported by alternative geographers in the region. The inaugural meeting was then held between 24th through 26th January 1999, Kyungju and Taegu, South Korea. In this meeting, the key note speech was presented by Professor Neil Smith and 20 scholars in geography and other related fields gathered together from East Asia as well as the rest of the world to participate. The second meeting will be held in 2001 Hong Kong.
